SUSTAINABILITY

Our Mission

At the Marlboro Restaurant we are always trying to find more sustainable ways to improve the business. Over the years we have made significant changes to tackle these problems where possible.

Food Packaging and Containers

We only use biodegradable boxes for our food by utilising brands such as Edenware, who provide compostable alternatives to plastic based packaging. We also use paper bags for all our orders; we never use single use plastic bags.

For our drinks, we primarily try to source aluminium cans and glass bottles. We do this because aluminium and glass can be recycled as many times you want. A plastic bottle in most cases can only be recycled once.

Sourcing and Operation

Our fish is line caught where possible, it is generally more sustainable, and causes less environmental damage and bycatch (unwanted marine life). It also results in higher quality fish with better flavour and texture due to careful, individual handling and a natural diet. We try to avoid any fish which is farmed.

We aim to source as many ingredients as possible from local providers such as our, dairy, meat, and drinks products. This not only reduces our carbon footprint, but also supports other local businesses as opposed to big chains. It also provides a more authentic dining experience for our customers. Where possible, we use refillable items. For example, our Salt shakers and vinegar bottles are refilled daily.

Waste Disposal

Due to how busy we get in the summer times, we have multiple bin collections a week, which include, general waste, food waste, and recycling. We have numerous food bins which we fill up throughout the week. This waste comes from excess batter from the fryer, and from any food left on plates from eating in our restaurant. We always breakdown our cardboard boxes and dispose of our waste paper in the recycling bins. Any plastic items are also recycled. We try to use our general waste bins as little as possible.
